Application / Notyetdead: AfflictionWarlockApplication
« on: May 03, 2021, 12:41:33 PM »
Character's Name: Notyetdead
BTag: Brightful#11657
Character's Level: 60
Class: Warlock
Usual Spec: Affliction
Age: 19
Previous Guild: Microtransaction Vendor (Thrall)
Reason you left previous guild:
they've been inactive for almost a month now
Tell us a bit about yourself:
i want to first point out that i'm willing to realm transfer or make a new character of any spec, class, or race in Emerald Dream. all of my characters are on thrall for no particular reason, and while i don't have much experience with other classes like DK, hunter, paladin—i'm always willing to learn if those classes/specs/roles will better benefit the guild. most of my enjoyment comes from being useful and flexible. at the same time, i don't mind if i have to sit anything out, of course, and i do have classes i prefer, but if anything i really don't mind playing something out of my comfort zone.
one last thing, i created this warlock after maining demonology for so long as a necrolord. when i realized i wanted to actually push content, i made another warlock in night fae as affliction. i was planning on joining the guild this character is currently in while leveling. it hasn't been in a guild raid because it did not meet the 210 ilvl requirement, and by the time i was getting there, my rshaman was more useful in ilvl and role to the guild than my warlock
i'm still interested in raiding. i'm still really interested in affliction as well. the reason it's undergeared and i put a halt to it was to play another character. i didn't put my shaman main as the main class here because this affliction warlock is the only other character i have with raid parses (normal, sadly). i did raid on shaman for a bit but never recorded those fights and wouldn't be able to provide the application with any logs. and while i still love my rshaman, i found myself missing DPS a lot more recently
anyways, now that thats out of the way, helo =)
i'm only 19, and i've only been playing wow for about 9 months since august 2020. i used to play league of legends a SHIT ton (5 years) but never as consistently as i play wow.
i'm pretty confident in my ability to play any other class or role in the game. i've had moderate experience tanking (mostly raid in BFA) and now a lot of experience healing (though mostly m+). DPS is still my most preferred role when it comes to raiding, along with affliction being my preferred spec
i'd say i'm not a slow learner. expectation does give me a bit of pressure but usually it's the pressure to do better. i know being humble goes a long way, but i'd just be lying if i said i thought i sucked. i think there's always room for improvement but i know i'm not a bad player
since i've only raided a little i don't have much to show for it. even though some of them say my ilvl parses are pretty high, to be fair, that's only been recorded on the few boss fights that are in the logs. so it's not very consistent data. but i hope it's enough for judgement
my typings a bit iffy sometimes, im kinda reserved, i like having fun and succeeding in hard content gives me a lot of that (and satisfaction). i'm pretty slow to anger, and i don't get offended by pretty much anything. as of right now i own a pet chicken but i don't really know why. my favorite movie is chronicle (2012) and my favorite color is green. i also like spaghetti a lot}
Are you friends with anyone in Nightstalkers? If so, who and how do you know them?
n/a
(while i don't know anyone personally, i did come here from rustyobra's video)
Why do you want to become a member of Nightstalkers?
i've been in the long search for a good guild to raid with since castle nathria released. i had my fun in nya'lotha being a lone wolf, but now i'd enjoy a well-coordinated group a lot more.
nightstalkers seems HIGHLY promising. i'm currently still in a guild that has become inactive so i haven't been sure about joining another one in case they'd end up like that. i want to be in a community where i feel it'll last a long time, and hearing that you've been around since BC is a pretty damn good sign
i also really want to push hard content and progress. progression is something i always enjoy and i have a lot of patience when it comes to raid
Any alts we can contact you on?
all horde-- Wallabinbang-Thrall, Gjeronimo-Thrall, Netherwish-Thrall
Our raid times are Wed, Thurs, and Mon from 8PM - 11PM server time (CST). Are you able to make ALL of our raid times, every week?
Yes
Do you forsee any issues in the near future with attendance? Vacation? Moving? Etc? i'm currently discussing plans for 1-2 month vacation in the summer—or in the winter—but that's highly subject to change/no definitive yes or no as of right now. otherwise, no

Please take a moment to outline your rotation/priority. Be thorough and specific:
in raids, i usually pre-cast haunt before the pull, into agony, unstable affliction, corruption, siphon life, then get to three stacks of drain soul
sometimes i switch the order in which i place the dots (corruption, SL, or agony) but typically haunt always goes first
then i blow all my CDS: phantom singularity into soul rot. then i'll dark soul: misery and darkglare simultaneously and spam malefic rapture until i'm out of soul shards. at that point i use drain soul until i have another shard
when darkglare is gone i hold my shards (unless i'm about to cap on them) until PS and SR are back up. i dump my shards when they are and save them up again when both dots are gone in preparation for a PS SR DSM combo
so essentially i set up all my dots, blow every single cooldown, then save up shards for two of the minor CDS. after that, i should have SR, PS, and DSM up, so i use all three. when darkglare is up a minute after, i'll cast SR and PS before using that CD
of course this depends on the fight. for ST fights like Hungering or Inerva that's usually what i do. multiple-target fights i might switch up a talent or two that very slightly alters the rotation. other than that, it's pretty much still baseline no matter the fight. i just have to keep in mind what i have to hold to maximize dps (a good example would be the Sludgefist fight where i use PS early and save DG for the first pillar)
priority is to always keep my dots up. agony is very important above all. i don't like dropping my drain soul stacks either
What's the one misconception about your class that upsets you the most?
hmm... in terms of affliction i don't really know of many misconceptions? do people think it's hard in raid? i think it's really easy. i played demo a lot, and i guess the common idea is that demo sucks, but i feel like i agreed with that to some extent. i don't think it's absolutely bad, though, since i know their numbers go to a decent level if you know what you're doing.
this next part isn't raid-related, but if there's one misconception about something that bothers me, it's that healing prides is difficult. i want prides to be HARDER. they're so fun to heal but usually im just dpsing the prides as healer because there's not much to do. the only time i really enjoy prides are in +18 and even then hearing that they might nerf prides really irks me
it's more of a pet-peeve than anything. i just really enjoy healing prides but i get that it's different for everyone
Summary of your raid experience (go as far back as you can):
i've only raided with a guild recently (march) for the first time. it was very shortlived but extremely enjoyable. the other time i've raided was without a guild in nya'lotha. i'd constantly join other groups or make my own throughout the end of BFA. i rarely pushed mythic+ because i was so addicted to raiding—and i still am, though now i'd prefer to be in a team rather than in a fluctuating roster in pugs
other than that, i don't usually have many negative experiences in raiding. nya'lotha was bliss and castle nathria was a bit more... concerning, but i typically have a lot of patience
Are you willing to respec or sit out of a raid if a different class is needed? Yes
Are you willing to download a few raid specific addons? Yes
Are you able to be in Discord (WITH a working mic) during raids? Yes
Please list your computer's specs. CPU speed, video card, RAM, Wireless/Wired?, Cable/DSL?, and average in-game latency.

Is there anything else you think we should know?
for the screenshot link, there were no groups i could join, so instead i just got a picture of the last fight of n'zoth i ever did before shadowlands. here's another one where i hit the target dummy as affliction just now: https://imgur.com/081x0Ka
for healers i use elvui and the ui setup is a bit different from my DPS classes. here's another link just in case: https://imgur.com/RNNlCb5
for raid, instead of at the side, the frames are moved to the bottom
